Part Number BE026
Definition
The Model
LTD is a simple instrument for measuring the transmission optical
density of a film medium. It uses a high quality, ANSI specified,
high color temperature incandescent source and a properly filtered
optodetector element. Throat length is 7.5 in (19 cm), so it
is able to reach points in the center of most media. The base
acts as a light table for ease of operation. It is used primarily
in traditional photographic processing, including radiography and
micrographics. It has also been applied in various textile and
materials plants.
Optical Density is defined as
log (Dzero / Dmeas), where Dzero is a fiduciary level corresponding
to zero attenuation, and Dmeas is the same light intensity, but attenuated
through the medium. The resulting dimensionless unit is referred
to as 'D'.
