Part Number BE040 (specify member of family)
Definition
The Morgan family is a versatile, robust set of DC motor controllers.
They are designed for traditional brushed DC permanent magnet motors
up to 0.63 hp. They are DSP controlled and use an H-bridge,
unlike lower-grade controllers. They have been designed expressly
for high-noise, challenging industrial environments where lower-grade
SCR-based controllers routinely fail. Typically, the Morgans are
line powered, but they may also be DC powered if an appropriate source
is available (usually in robotic applications). They may be
operated birectionally, and they may be operated in either an open
or closed loop mode. In open loop mode a feedback sensor is
not required, and the operator must assure that the motor speed is
correct under all loads. In closed loop mode, a sophisticated
PID algorithm assures correct speed and rapid response under load
variations. A Hall sensor and magnet are included standard.
Speed is set either by a panel potentiometer or by a 4-20mA input.
The latter allows for connection to other systems or to a convenient
remote operator speed control device. Such a device is available
as an option below. The Morgan is protected from stall conditions,
electrical transients and short circuits.
